Windows 7, MINE!

October 5, 2009

As the title suggests, Windows 7 is mine! No, not some random torrent I snatched online. And no, not just the Release Candidate that we were all rocking. I’m talking RTM, Release to Manufacturer. Basically, the final version of Windows 7. It’s what Microsoft has given out to the manu’s, like HP and Dell. And they also released it to MSDN.

Basically, depending on your school and what classes you’re taking, they can offer you access to MSDN. That gives you free access to a whole bunch of software and they provide you with full, legitimate keys. Apparently, my Business Informational Systems class falls under Computer studies, so I got access. Lo and behold, Windows 7 was on there! I’m allowed to download it, use, and even keep it even after I’m done with the class. Very awesome. So, I spent this last weekend installing it and setting up all my applications. Apparently, once I had everything installed, programs lists has 71 items. Sheesh, I didn’t realize I have so much installed normally. Oh well.

So far, I’m loving it. XP has been a great ride these last couple years, but I’ve always been dreadful of moving to Vista. So much so, that I’ve stuck with XP for a while now. So, 7 just feels like a big jump in design since XP. Boy, was the wait worth it. It’s like learning how an OS works, all over again. In this case, it’s a good thing, cause everything is either easier to use or just downright pretty.
